Crisis Text Line

Crisis Text Line

Crisis Text Line is a free, nationwide, 24/7, confidential mental health service that supports people in crisis by text. It’s powered by volunteer Crisis Counselors.

They’re trained to help people through a hot moment and into a calm place by empathizing with them, collaborative problem solving, and safety planning.

What is the Crisis Text Line?

The Crisis Text Line is a free, confidential texting service that provides support in emergencies. It is available to anyone, anytime.

Crises can be anything from depression to anxiety, eating disorders, bullying, suicidal thoughts, and more. Having someone to talk to is critical.

In response to the widespread use of mobile phones and texting as a communication medium, mental health crisis services have increasingly expanded their reach through chat and text messaging. However, despite this, there is little knowledge about user experiences with text-based crisis services.

It’s free

Crisis Text Line provides free, anonymous emotional support to anyone in crisis – all by text. The service is backed by trained Crisis Counselors, who respond quickly to text messages from anyone in the US or Canada.

In addition to supporting individuals in a crisis, Crisis Text Line also works with organizations like police departments, health care institutions and community colleges to provide texting support to their communities.

The service is available 24/7 and uses standard messaging services, based on the individual’s cell phone provider or plan. All text messages are free and do not appear on a mobile phone bill.

It’s anonymous

If you or someone you know is feeling stressed, overwhelmed or just in need of support, the Crisis Text Line can help. The service is confidential and can be used to chat with a trained counselor about any mental health-related topic.

A crisis can happen to anyone at any time. It can be anything from anxiety about schoolwork to feelings of anger towards a significant other or even an unexpected medical emergency.

The Crisis Text Line is the first organization to offer free, 24/7 text-based support to those in crisis. You can text a keyword to 741741 from anywhere in the US to connect with a volunteer Crisis Counselor. It’s the best way to find help when you’re in a tough spot.

It’s confidential

Every texter is connected with a crisis counselor, a real-life human being trained to bring them from a hot moment to a cool calm through active listening and collaborative problem-solving.

The service is available to anyone in the US, regardless of language or national origin. It’s free, anonymous and available 24/7.

It’s a way to get support in moments when you need it the most, whether it’s about suicidal thoughts, family issues or a breakup.

In the last year, Crisis Text Line has gathered 65 million messages. Its mission is to promote mental well-being by supporting individuals in a variety of situations, from school, work or family challenges to depression, substance abuse, relationship problems and suicide thoughts.
